Empowering Students for College and Beyond
At Collegiate, we recognize that there are multiple pathways in pursuit of our mission of college success for our scholars. That’s why we offer both Advanced Placement (AP) courses and dual enrollment opportunities, allowing our junior and senior students to gain college-level experience and credit while still in high school. These programs provide our scholars with multiple ways to challenge themselves academically and prepare them for the demands of higher education.
Dual Enrollment
Our dual enrollment program allows students to earn college credit while completing their high school education. Through partnerships with institutions like the University of Memphis, Bryan College, and Bethel University, eligible students can take online courses across a variety of subjects. With state scholarships, dual enrollment course fees are 100% covered, offering significant savings on future college tuition.
Ms. McCann, Collegiate’s Dual Enrollment Coordinator, highlights the practical skills and benefits students gain through this program: “Dual enrollment gives our students a taste of college before they ever leave Collegiate. Here, they experience the college-level rigor in a supportive environment and they aren’t surprised by the standards of courses come August of their freshman year of college.” With dedicated class time and regular check-ins, students are able to receive the guidance they need to balance their high school and college coursework.
Advanced Placement (AP)
AP courses at Collegiate offer students a rigorous, standardized curriculum that mirrors college-level classes and are taught by Collegiate faculty. With 11 AP classes, ranging from AP Calculus to AP African American Studies, our offerings are impressive for a school with 170 high school students. Collegiate has been recognized by College Board, the curriculum facilitator of AP courses, as a Bronze school with “AP Access,” particularly excelling in offering AP courses to minority students.
AP courses at Collegiate not only push students academically but also help them build the resilience needed for college and life after high school.
Ms. Schaeffer, Collegiate’s AP Coordinator, emphasizes, “Collegiate is a safe place for students to challenge themselves academically. AP classes show colleges that students are willing to take on more challenging work during high school, which makes a strong impression on their high school transcripts.” The AP curriculum, paired with support from dedicated teachers, helps students develop critical thinking skills that will serve them in any college classroom.
Benefits for CSM Students
Dual enrollment and AP classes at Collegiate help prepare students for the transition to higher education by giving them college-level experience while in high school. Ninety percent of Collegiate seniors are first-generation college students and the exposure to college-level courses in high school can build a sense of confidence as they consider their post-secondary plans.
With a combination of academic challenge and support, these programs give scholars a head start on their college journey. Whether a student pursues dual enrollment and/or AP classes, or not, Collegiate is committed to helping every scholar find a path to success after high school.
